The NASDAQ officially defines "pattern day trading" as placing four or more round-trip orders over a five-day period. Your expectations of day trading must be realistic. Go with the trend with the popular stocks available. It'll be easier for you to sell those stocks at the end of the day trading.

The profit potential of day trading is perhaps one of the most debated topics on Wall Street. When a professional day trader prepares for the day's market, he looks at much more than technical indicators. You won't succeed at day trading unless you have a high measure of confidence in yourself.

The best advice for an off-floor trader who wants to day- trade is to develop or buy a system that will force him into action. Day traders are sometimes portrayed as "bandits" or "gamblers" which is thought to discourage others from joining in on the activity.

Advertisements for some day trading systems or advisory services make investing look like a virtual bonanza where everyone's a winner. Day trading is an inherently variable business. Weigh the risks and rewards against your current financial situation and future financial goals, and decide if day trading is for you.

Daytraders will tell you that raw cunning and nerves of steel are the key ingredients of their success. Day trading strategies demand using the leverage of borrowed money to make profits. If you want to day trade for a living, not only must you make good money, but you must avoid losing money. Trading successfully requires time, market knowledge and market understanding.
